Tired of Waiting

Can you remember as child having to wait on a promise that your parents made? It was one of the hardest things to do.   Whether it was your birthday gifts, a planned vacation, or just a visit to an amusement park for the summer.  We hated waiting!!  Waiting was especially hard when our parents would NOT give us a date or time!  I can recall bugging my mother every chance I got asking her  WHEN???   I'm sure many of you parents can relate to that now with your own children.  It can be so annoying to have your kids focus on when something is going to happen vs. what they should be attending to right now.  As children of God we don't behave much differently.

God's gives us promises to give us hope, and something to look forward to. A promise is also given to help settle our minds, so we can focus on what God wants us to do today.    In Acts 1:7 Jesus was encouraging His disciples to "wait' for the promise of the power of the Holy Ghost. During this time they were more interested in knowing when the kingdom of Israel would be restored, and Jesus said to them; "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority, BUT you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you", and you shall be witnesses to Me all over the world.

Wow!  I love how Jesus can divert our attention, and bring it back where it should be.  In other words  He's saying, don't worry about MY business, here is yours: you will be filled with Power to do my will on the Earth. The knowledge of When ,Where, and How something will happen belongs to God alone.  He doesn't want us to focus too  much on the promises that ARE coming, but the work of obedience that is required of us right now.

Don't Worry, It's Coming. The promises, the gifts, everything has already been prepared and it's just a matter of time!
